Frequently Asked Questions About Kindergarten
WHAT WILL KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS LEARN?
- Children will build foundational reading and writing skills.
- Children will develop an understanding of math concepts and problem-solving while establishing number sense.
- Children will experience expanded opportunities in science, social studies, art, music, library and physical education
- Children will develop effective social, emotional, character, and behavioral habits.
- Children will experience developmentally appropriate instructional practices including purposeful play, hands-on learning, peer collaboration, and technology integration.
HOW WILL MY CHILD SPEND HIS/HER DAY?
Our school day starts at 9:15 and dismisses at 4:00. During that time, students will spend time participating in:
- Morning Meeting
- English/Language Arts (up to two hours)
- Math (up to two hours)
- Lunch (30 minutes)
- Recess
- Science/Social Studies
- Specials including physical education, music, art, and library
WHAT ARE THE SCHOOL HOURS?
Arrival starts at 9:04 and students must be in their classrooms by 9:15. Dismissal is at 4:00.
CAN MY CHILD BE A PART OF THE SPANISH IMMERSION PROGRAM?
Rose Hill has offered the Spanish Immersion program for almost 30 years! It is truly a part of our school community. The Rose Hill program is the two-way model in which both student populations serve as peer language models during the respective language portion of the day to mutually benefit each group’s language acquisition process. Entry into the Spanish Immersion program is by a lottery process. More information about the process and program can be found here.
HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL BE IN EACH CLASSROOM?
Currently, there is a cap of 24 students in each classroom. In addition to the teacher, each classroom has an instructional assistant.
