In her junior year at Mary Washington College, Miss McLaughlin’s favorite Art History professor, Dr. Oliver, told her to take a course at the Education Department. Two years later with a Bachalor’s Degree in Art History, a job waiting in Beijing, China at the International School, and an ember glowing in her heart for teaching, Miss McLaughlin began her professional career. After returning from China, she worked as an instructional assistant before entering a master’s degree program George Mason Univeristy. Since graduating with a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, she’s been a classroom teacher, Reading Recovery® teacher, Title I Reading Teacher, Reading Teacher, and Literacy Collaborative Coach all in Fairfax County Public Schools. Whatever her professor saw smoldering in her nearly thirty years ago, it continues to burn in Miss McLaughlin as she works and learns alongside students and staff here at Rose Hill.
